Live class booking terms
These terms apply when you book a live class on Prentora. Please read them before you pay.
In these terms, "you" means the student, "the instructor" means the person or business who runs the class, and "Prentora" means Prentora Ltd. Your "membership" is your place in a semester: the sessions you've enrolled in and the payments for them.
1. Who you're booking with
1.1 These terms are your contract with the instructor
The instructor sells and teaches the class. When you enroll, these terms become your contract with the instructor for the class, together with the class details in section 2.
Prentora Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales (number 16785749), at 15 Peregrine Crescent, Manchester M43 7TA. It runs the Prentora website and acts as the instructor's agent, taking bookings, arranging payments to the instructor and processing refunds on their behalf under these terms. Prentora doesn't run or teach the class and isn't a party to your contract.
When a payment is taken from your card, you've paid the instructor for it.
1.2 What you're shown about the instructor
Before you pay, and again in your booking confirmation (or your move confirmation, if you move to another semester), you're shown:
- the instructor's name, and their company name and number if they sell through a company, and their VAT number if they've given one to Prentora;
- whether they sell their classes as a business (including as a self-employed individual) or as a private individual, and their business address if they sell as a business;
- their contact email, which you can use for any question about the class.
If the instructor has told Prentora that they sell as a private individual, UK and EU consumer laws (such as the legal right to cancel, and the legal rights about how the class is taught) may not apply to your contract. Whether they sell as a business is based on the instructor's own declaration to Prentora. If the instructor in fact sells as a business, those laws apply whatever they've declared. Either way, you have every right these terms give you, including the cancellation and refund rules in sections 5 to 8, and the instructor must keep to them.
1.3 No booking fee
You pay the price shown before you pay, and nothing more. Prentora is paid a fee by the instructor out of what you pay.
2. What you're buying
Your membership is a place in one semester: the live sessions listed on the class page, at the times shown, taught in the class's language, with any materials and recordings the instructor chooses to share. Recordings aren't guaranteed. What the class page says about the class when you enroll, and anything else the instructor tells you about it before you pay, is part of your contract. The schedule can only change as section 7 allows.
Your membership starts when you enroll and ends when the semester's last session ends, unless it ends earlier under sections 6 to 8. You can still watch recordings and use materials after it ends, for the period in section 10.2. Your membership covers one semester only and doesn't renew.
3. Applying and enrolling
3.1 Applying
Applying doesn't commit you to anything. You can change the semesters you've chosen, or withdraw your application, until you're offered a place.
The instructor may also invite you to apply, or offer you a place directly.
3.2 Offers
If the instructor accepts you, you get an offer for one semester. An offer may have a deadline. If you don't pay by the deadline, the offer lapses. You can decline an offer, and the instructor can withdraw it at any time before you pay.
If the instructor can't take payments for a while, your deadline is extended so you have at least 48 hours to pay once they can. If Prentora suspends the instructor, you can't pay, and your offer lapses at its deadline.
3.3 When you're enrolled
You're enrolled when your first payment is taken at checkout. Your membership then starts, and you're emailed a booking confirmation.
Before you pay, you confirm that you're 18 or over and that you agree to these terms.
4. Prices and payments
4.1 The price
The instructor sets a price per session. Your total is that price multiplied by the sessions your membership covers, and it's fixed when you enroll. If you join after a semester has started, you only pay for the sessions still to come. Any tax is included in the price you're shown before you pay.
Prices are set in the instructor's currency, and you're charged in that currency. You may also be shown the price converted into your own currency, as a guide. If your card is in a different currency, your bank converts each payment at its own exchange rate on the day, so the amount on your statement may differ from that guide. Your bank may also charge a fee for the conversion.
4.2 Your payment schedule
You pay upfront or in installments, depending on what the instructor offers. Each payment covers a set of sessions and falls due a set number of days before the first of them. That number of days is the lead time, and it's shown before you pay. The lead time is also your notice period if you cancel (section 6.1).
At checkout you pay your first payment and any others already due. You also save your card for the instructor. By saving it, you authorize the instructor, through Prentora, to charge it for each later payment in your payment schedule on its due date, to try again if a payment fails, and to take any payment that's overdue once it can be collected. You're never charged more than your membership's price. If overdue payments are going to be taken together, you're emailed at least 3 days before, unless you've just saved your card to pay them.
If a session is moved, the date its payment falls due doesn't change. If the semester is postponed before it starts (section 7.1), due dates move later with it, never earlier.
4.3 Changing your card
You can change your saved card at any time.
4.4 If a payment fails
If a payment fails, you're emailed and it may be tried again. You can also pay it yourself at any time, unless your payments are paused (sections 4.5 and 9).
If a payment stays unpaid, the instructor decides what happens. They may give you more time, waive the payment, or remove you from the semester for non-payment (section 8).
When a semester ends, or is canceled, Prentora stops collecting payments for it. You still owe the instructor for any sessions already held that you haven't paid for, and they may ask you to pay them directly.
4.5 If the instructor's payment account stops working
If the instructor can't take payments for a while, your payments are paused and you're not treated as late. Once they can, any overdue payments are taken (section 4.2).
4.6 Changes the instructor can make in your favor
The instructor can move a payment to a later date, combine payments, waive a payment, or refund more than these terms require. They can't move a payment earlier or charge you more than your membership's price. You're emailed about every change.
4.7 Receipts
You're emailed a receipt for every payment and refund. If you need a VAT invoice, ask the instructor.
5. Refunds
If you're owed money back for a session, except when you move (section 7.2), it's deducted from your next payment when that payment is due within 14 days, and anything left over is refunded to the card you paid with. If you have no payment due within 14 days, all of it is refunded to the card you paid with. Refunds are made within 14 days of the day you become entitled to them. You're never charged a fee for a refund.
Refunds are paid by the instructor. Prentora processes them on the instructor's behalf but doesn't pay them itself. If a refund can't be processed, the instructor must pay you back directly.
Money the instructor has already paid back to you directly, or your bank has returned to you after a dispute (section 9), counts toward what you're refunded.
6. Canceling your membership
6.1 How canceling works
You can cancel your membership at any time until the semester ends, in any of the ways in section 6.3. Your cancellation takes effect when you send it. Once you cancel, you can't be offered a place in that semester again.
When you cancel:
- Sessions already held aren't refunded.
- Sessions in your notice period, meaning those starting less than the lead time after you cancel, aren't refunded: you pay for them and can still join them.
- Sessions after that are refunded if you've paid for them, and you won't be charged for them if you haven't.
- Anything you still owe for sessions already held, and for sessions in your notice period, is still collected on its due date.
You keep the recordings and materials of sessions already held and of sessions in your notice period, for the period in section 10.2.
For example, a semester has 11 weekly sessions on Tuesdays at $30, paid monthly, with a 7-day lead time:
| Payment | Sessions | Amount | Due |
|---|---|---|---|
| October | 6, 13, 20, 27 October | $120 | 29 September |
| November | 3, 10, 17, 24 November | $120 | 27 October |
| December | 1, 8, 15 December | $90 | 24 November |
You've paid $240 for October and November, and you cancel on Wednesday 11 November. The 6 sessions already held aren't refunded. The session on 17 November is less than 7 days away, so it's in your notice period: you pay for it and can still join it. You get $30 back for 24 November, and the December payment is canceled.
6.2 Canceling in your first 14 days
You can cancel within 14 days of enrolling, or of accepting a move to another semester (section 7.2), for any reason, and get back everything you've paid for sessions that haven't started yet. This includes sessions in your notice period (section 6.1). Your 14 days end at the end of the 14th day after the day you enrolled or accepted the move, in your time zone. It's enough to send your cancellation before your 14 days end.
What you get back depends on when the semester starts:
- The first session is after your 14 days end. You get back everything you've paid if you cancel within your 14 days. This applies even to a session that has taken place because the instructor moved it into your 14 days.
- A session takes place during your 14 days. Before you pay, you're asked to confirm that you want to attend those sessions, and that if you cancel within your 14 days, you pay for the sessions held up to then. You can't enroll without confirming this. If you then cancel within your 14 days, you get back everything you've paid for the sessions still to come.
For example, you enroll on 1 October and the first weekly session is on 6 October. If you cancel on 10 October, you pay for the session on 6 October and get back what you've paid for every session after it.
6.3 How to cancel
You can cancel from your payments page, by emailing Prentora at [email protected], which receives cancellations for the instructor, or by sending the cancellation form in section 17. Any clear statement that you want to cancel is enough. You're emailed to confirm your cancellation. Any refund is made as in section 5.
If the instructor sells as a business, canceling in your first 14 days is also your legal right under consumer law. These terms don't take away any of your rights under consumer law, including any further rights given by the law of the country where you live.
7. Changes to the semester
7.1 Changes the instructor makes
The instructor may change a semester after you've enrolled, for a good reason such as illness, an emergency, a clash with something they can't move, or too few students before the semester starts. You're emailed about every change.
- A session is moved. If you can't make the new time, you can mark the session as "not attending" (you can't undo this) before it starts, or up to 48 hours after it if it was moved to less than 48 hours away. You're then owed its price back (section 5).
- A session is canceled. You're owed its price back (section 5).
- A session is added. It's free for you.
- The semester is postponed before it starts. Its start date moves later and you keep your membership. If you enrolled before the postponement, you can instead cancel it for a full refund until the first session starts.
- The semester is canceled. You're refunded everything you paid for sessions not yet held, and no further payments are taken.
7.2 Moving to another semester
The instructor may offer to move your membership to another semester of the same class. The offer shows the new sessions, price and payment schedule, and what's carried over from your current semester. Nothing changes unless you accept. If you accept, you leave your current semester straight away, with no notice period. What you've paid for its sessions not yet started goes toward the new semester. Anything left over is refunded (section 5). Your new price and payment schedule then replace the old ones, and you can't return to the semester you left. You also lose access to the recordings and materials of the semester you leave. Accepting a move starts a new 14 days for the new semester (section 6.2).
7.3 If Prentora steps in
Prentora can cancel a semester for the instructor if it has to by law, if it reasonably believes this is needed to protect students from serious harm or loss, or if it ends its agreement with the instructor because they broke it. You're then refunded as if the instructor had canceled it. If the instructor dies, or goes bankrupt or their company is wound up, Prentora cancels the semester and no more payments are taken. You're refunded as if the instructor had canceled it, where their payment account still allows it.
If Prentora stops offering live classes, semesters you're already enrolled in still run to their end.
7.4 If Prentora believes you're under 18
If Prentora has reason to believe you're under 18, you'll be contacted and given the chance to confirm your age. You're removed from the class if Prentora still believes you're under 18. This counts as a cancellation by the instructor. Every session not yet started is refunded. Anything you still owe for sessions already held is canceled. You lose access to the semester and its recordings and materials straight away.
8. When the instructor can remove you
The instructor can remove you from a semester, and must tell you which of these reasons applies:
- For non-payment, if a payment is still unpaid at the end of the 12th day after Prentora first emailed you that it couldn't be taken. If payments were paused, because of a problem with the instructor's payment account or a dispute with your bank, the 12 days count again from the email telling you payments are restarting. Those emails and your payments page give you the date to pay by, and you have until the end of that day where you live. You can't join any more of the semester's sessions, but you keep the recordings and materials of sessions already held. Every session not yet started is released: you aren't charged for it, and it's refunded if you've paid for it. You still owe for sessions already held.
- For your conduct, if the instructor has reasonable grounds to believe you've harassed, threatened or abused the instructor or another student, shared joining links, recordings or materials without permission, or otherwise seriously broken these terms or Prentora's Terms of Service. You're then treated as if you had canceled under section 6, including your first 14 days. You lose access to the semester and the recordings and materials of sessions already held straight away. You can't join the sessions in your notice period (section 6.1). You still pay for them unless you're removed within your first 14 days. If you think the removal wasn't justified, email Prentora at [email protected]. If Prentora agrees, the removal no longer counts in your record (section 8.1). You keep any right the law gives you to get your money back.
- For any other reason. This counts as a cancellation by the instructor. You can't join any more of the semester's sessions, but you keep the recordings and materials of sessions already held. Every session not yet started is refunded, and you only pay for sessions already held.
8.1 Your record
When you apply for a class, the instructor can see a short summary of your live class memberships on Prentora over the last 12 months: how many you completed and paid for in full, how many you left early, how many weren't fully paid, and how many you were removed from for conduct. You can ask Prentora for your record at any time. If something in your record is wrong, for example because you left after the instructor broke these terms, or you later paid what you owed, ask Prentora to correct it.
These never count: canceling in your first 14 days, leaving after a postponement, a semester the instructor canceled, a removal for "any other reason", a removal under section 7.4, a move, and a place paid outside Prentora.
9. Problems with a payment
If you think a payment is wrong, please contact Prentora (section 14) before disputing it with your bank. If you dispute a payment with your bank, your later payments are paused and you can't pay them yourself. They restart only if the instructor resumes them, and never before the bank decides. You're emailed at least 3 days before anything is taken. Any refund the dispute affects waits until the bank decides.
Nothing in these terms stops you disputing a payment with your bank.
10. Taking part
10.1 The instructor's promises
The instructor must teach each session live, at its published time, with reasonable care and skill and as the class page describes. Each class is taught in one language, and you need to be able to follow it in that language.
If a session doesn't happen, or isn't taught as promised, tell the instructor. You can ask them to repeat it. If they can't repeat it within a reasonable time, or without causing you significant inconvenience, they must reduce what you pay for it by an appropriate amount, up to its full price, as in section 5. If you want to cancel because the instructor hasn't kept to these terms, tell the instructor. If they agree, they remove you for "any other reason" (section 8). If they don't agree, you can still cancel under section 6, and you keep any right the law gives you to end your contract and get your money back. You may also have other legal rights, such as to claim for losses the instructor causes.
10.2 Recordings
Sessions may be recorded by the instructor and shared with the students enrolled in the semester on Prentora. If a session is recorded, your voice, your image if your camera is on, your display name and anything you type in the session chat may be in the recording. You can keep your camera off at any time. If you don't want to appear in a recording, contact the instructor.
Prentora hosts recordings for the instructor. The instructor can remove a recording at any time. You can watch recordings until 30 days after the semester ends or is canceled. You can download each recording up to twice. Other students can download recordings too. Their copies aren't deleted.
10.3 Materials and other tools
The instructor may share notes, links and files ("materials") for each session. You can use them for as long as recordings (section 10.2). The instructor may also use other tools, such as a Discord server, a group chat or a video platform. The instructor runs those tools and is responsible for them.
10.4 Using recordings and materials
The instructor gives you a personal right to watch, download and keep recordings and materials for your own learning. Don't share them, publish them or use them commercially.
10.5 Your conduct
Treat the instructor and other students with respect, and follow Prentora's Terms of Service. Don't share joining links. Don't record sessions yourself without the instructor's permission. If you need to record sessions because of a disability, ask the instructor, who must make any reasonable adjustment equality law requires.
10.6 Emails about your membership
While you're enrolled, you always get emails about your payments, your membership and its sessions, and the instructor's announcements. You can't turn these off.
11. Reviews
You can review a semester once it ends or is canceled, if you were enrolled for at least one session of it that took place. That includes students who canceled, were removed for non-payment or for any other reason, or moved to another semester. If the instructor removed you for your conduct (section 8), you can't review the semester unless Prentora agrees the removal wasn't justified. You also can't review a semester you were removed from under section 7.4.
Prentora's Terms of Service explain how reviews work (section 8). Section 12 says how to report a review or reply, and how to appeal if yours is removed.
12. Reporting content
Prentora's Terms of Service explain how to report something on Prentora that you think is illegal or breaks its rules (section 7.2), how to appeal if Prentora restricts something you posted (section 7.5), and how to complain about how Prentora handled a report or an appeal (section 7.6).
13. Your personal data
When you apply, the instructor receives your Prentora username, your email address and your answers to the application form, and your Discord username if you connect Discord. When you pay, they also receive the details you enter at checkout, such as the name on your card. If you dispute a payment with your bank, the instructor also receives the record of your payments, attendance and recording views, including the network address and device you used, to answer the dispute. The instructor is responsible for the information they receive about you, and for recordings of their sessions, as a separate controller under data protection law. They may email you about their class and, where the law allows, about their other teaching. You can ask them to stop at any time. Prentora's Privacy Policy explains how instructors may use your information, including if they're outside the UK, and your rights. Contact the instructor to use your rights over the information they hold.
14. Questions and complaints
For anything about the class, email the instructor. For payments, refunds or the Prentora website, email Prentora at [email protected]. Prentora passes anything about the class on to the instructor.
If a complaint can't be settled, you can contact your bank about a payment, or go to court (section 16.5).
15. Places paid outside Prentora
An instructor may offer you a place that you pay them for directly. The price and how you pay are what you agree with the instructor. They should confirm them to you in writing. You're enrolled when you accept the place on Prentora. Prentora takes no payment for the place and makes no refunds for it. The instructor must pay you directly any money these terms say you get back.
The rest of these terms apply to the place. These parts are different:
- You lose access to the semester straight away when you cancel. That includes the sessions in your notice period and the recordings and materials of sessions already held. You don't pay for the sessions in your notice period.
- The instructor can remove you for non-payment (section 8) when you haven't paid them as you agreed. The 12 days in section 8 don't apply.
- You can't review the semester (section 11).
16. These terms, and the law that applies
16.1 Changes to these terms
Prentora may update these terms, for example to reflect a change in the law or in how live classes work. Each version shows the date it takes effect, and Prentora publishes each new version at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the law requires the change sooner. An update only applies to memberships that start on or after that date. Your membership stays under the version you agreed to when you enrolled, including if you move to another semester. Your booking confirmation, and your move confirmation if you move, include a copy of the version of these terms you agreed to, and the class's title and description as they were when you enrolled. You can also ask Prentora for another copy at any time.
16.2 Prentora's Terms of Service
Prentora's Terms of Service cover your use of the Prentora website, and these terms are your contract with the instructor. If they disagree about a live class, these terms apply.
16.3 Translations
These terms are available in each language the Prentora website supports. If part of a translation differs from the English version, you can rely on whichever version of that part is more favorable to you.
16.4 Other legal points
- Your membership is personal to you, and you can't transfer it to someone else.
- The instructor can't transfer their contract with you to someone else without your agreement.
- If a court decides that part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If the instructor doesn't enforce one of their rights straight away, they can still enforce it later.
- Prentora can rely on the parts of these terms that refer to it. Nobody else has rights under them.
16.5 The law and the courts
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim there, and the law there also applies. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of its consumer laws and may be able to bring a claim in your local courts.
17. Cancellation form
To use this form, complete it and email it to [email protected], or post it to the address below. Only send it if you want to cancel your membership. Your booking confirmation includes a copy with the instructor's details filled in.
