Domestika's real strengths are breadth and production. Anyone working in a creative field can propose a course, and a team reviews proposals before they are made. The clearest reason to choose Domestika is simply catalogue size: if a specific topic is not on Prentora yet, Domestika probably has it.

How a low course price becomes an annual Domestika Plus subscription
Domestika sells courses two ways: a one-off purchase, or a "Plus" subscription with monthly credits and a rotating catalogue you can stream. The part buyers get caught by is the funnel that connects the two. On Domestika's own offer page, a low promotional course price is paired with a free 30-day Plus trial, and when the trial ends you are automatically subscribed to the annual plan, which then renews every year. This is a big deal because of the gap between what people think they are buying and what they are signed up for. Someone who meant to spend less than a dollar on a single course can be charged for a full year of Plus once the trial quietly converts, often noticing only weeks later when the payment lands on a statement. FRAUDULENT AND MISLEADING I purchased a single Domestika course advertised for $0.79 and never knowingly agreed to a $349 annual Domestika Plus membership. The checkout focused on the course purchase, while the subscription terms were unclear and misleading. I only discovered the charge a month later through an email notification. I never used any membership benefits, yet the company refuses to refund or charge back the money. Be very careful when purchasing from this company.

Rip off. A subscription process that seems designed to trap the unwary into paying more than they intended
It is a widely shared experience. Domestika's Trustpilot score is 2.0 out of 5 across 9,454 reviews, and the US Better Business Bureau lists a rating of F with 317 complaints (both checked July 2026). If you view the latest negative Trustpilot reviews of Domestika, you will likely see a lot more of the same still happening.
This is one of the reasons that Prentora does not use a subscription model. There is no trial to forget, no card kept on file for a charge you did not plan, and nothing that renews. You buy a course once, at the price shown on the page, and that is the end of it.
Domestika instructors report low payouts due to the subscription model
When courses are bundled into a subscription or sold for pennies to drive sign-ups, the share reaching the person who actually taught the course can be very small. One Domestika instructor described it:

We cannot verify one instructor's figures, but a small per-sale share is a known trade-off of the subscription-and-deep-discount model. Prentora is built to be fair to students and to instructors, which is a large part of why we sell each course as a single purchase: instructors on Prentora earn 70% to 85% of every sale, and you always know exactly what you are paying for.
Domestika Plus subscriptions are not refundable
Domestika's terms remove the usual 14-day withdrawal right for a Plus subscription entirely:

Domestika does not let you download and keep your courses
On the Domestika website you cannot download a course, only stream it. The mobile app offers offline viewing, but the files stay locked inside the app rather than saved to your device, so you cannot keep your own copy of something you paid for.
On Prentora, you can download your course videos for personal use and keep them, as well as stream online. Allowing downloads means accepting some risk of piracy. We would rather take that risk and give paying customers a good experience than lock everyone down to stop a few. There is no DRM, so the files are yours to watch however you like.
Domestika only provides dubbed audio for a small number of courses
Most Domestika courses are taught in the instructor's language, usually Spanish, and translated into other languages with subtitles. Only a small set of courses have a dubbed audio track, so for most of the catalogue the audio stays in the instructor's original language and you read translated subtitles over it. Reviewers report the translation quality can be uneven:

Also, the quality of their translated courses is so bad, it's painful and hard to learn anything. Plenty of other courses out there without the predatory subscription model.

Our dubbing and subtitles are produced with a proprietary, layered pipeline that goes well beyond plain machine translation, and every course is reviewed for the kind of meaning errors that make a translation hard to follow. Domestika promotes generative AI
Domestika sells and markets a full category of generative-AI courses covering tools like Midjourney and ChatGPT for producing finished creative work; one such course drew a public backlash from its own artist community in 2024, as reported by 80.lv (archived).
On Prentora, we exist to help people build real creative skill through human instruction. We use AI only to make human-taught courses available across languages. Prentora does not support the use of generative AI for creative works.
When Domestika is the better choice
If the subject you want is on Domestika and not yet on Prentora, that is a real reason to buy there. Domestika's catalogue is far larger than ours today, spanning thousands of courses across dozens of disciplines, and breadth is where it wins.
Prentora is smaller and more selective by design. We work alongside our instructors with a focus on the theory of learning, and each course is a back-and-forth process of refinement until it meets our quality standards. We would rather get a smaller number of courses right, and get the single honest purchase, the translation, and the instructor's share right along with them, than race to match a catalogue on size alone.

Does Prentora have a subscription?
No. Every Prentora course is a single purchase with no subscription and nothing that auto-renews. Domestika offers a Plus subscription whose annual plan renews automatically once a trial ends.
Do I keep my courses if I stop paying?
On Prentora there is nothing to stop paying: a course you buy is yours permanently, and you can download the videos. On Domestika, courses you buy outright stay with you, but the Plus free-to-watch catalogue is only available while your subscription is active.
How do refunds work?
On Prentora, an eligible refund is a single click, checked automatically, and our refund policy is short and clear. Like Domestika, in countries with a 14-day withdrawal right (mainly the EU and UK) we ask you to opt in to immediate access, which waives the standard withdrawal right once you begin a course. On Prentora this is a clearly marked and required checkbox on the checkout screen before purchase, not hidden in terms and conditions. Prentora's 14 day refund policy is still applicable. This right of withdrawal notice is to protect against refund abuse where someone could purchase a course, download all of it, and then apply for a refund. Unlike Domestika, whose terms make a Plus subscription non-refundable, ours is simple to read and to use.
Can I watch courses in my language?
Prentora includes dubbing and reviewed subtitles in every supported language in every purchase. Most Domestika courses keep the audio in the instructor's original language, usually Spanish, with translated subtitles, and dubbing on just a small selection.
